The department of Electrical and Control Engineering is established in 1965, with the master program in 1981, and the Ph.D program in 1991. Currently, the department has 33 faculties, 400 undergraduate students, 200 master students, and 100 Ph.D students. The graduates from the department have achieved much success, and are cordially welcome by the academy and industry.

The department focuses on electrical engineering, computer control, and automation. In curriculum, in addition to the basic courses on electrical engineering, system, and information science, it also provides the advanced courses on electrical engineering, electronics, mechatronics, control, signal, and information science. A series of experimental courses are designed to furnish the students with salient experimental techniques. And the students are encouraged to participate in research projects to enhance their ability in solving the problem independently.

The institute focuses on both the basic researches and practical applications. The teachers are well recognized and have cultivated many experts in electrical engineering and control. Their research interests range from electricity to electronics, hardware to software, device to system, and theory to practice. Currently, the institute is cooperating with National Science Council, Industrial Technology Research Institute, Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology, Scientific Industrial Park, and others.
